Commissioning a DS1M or DS3M with digital load cells follows a fixed order. Get the addressing wrong at the start and nothing after it will behave, so the sequence below is worth following exactly — particularly the rule about connecting cells one at a time.
Equipment covered
Order of work
1 Identify and set the addresses. Connect one cell at a time so each gets a known address.
2 Group the cells and tell the indicator how many are connected.
3 Correct the corners.
4 Enter the configuration: capacity, division, communication settings.
Making the connections
The DS1M and DS3M support a six-wire connection. The socket on the indicator is shown below.

Colours on the cable supplied with the indicator
| 12 V DC | GND | Sig+ (A) | Sig− (B) | Shield |
| Red | Black | Green + Green | White + Yellow | Black tube |

Connecting the cells and assigning addresses. Note the rule shown in the video: fit one cell at a time.

Calibrating the DS1
Only these steps
The calibration routine has more steps than the ones listed here. Work through the rest for reference but do not change them — altering the other parameters is how a working scale gets broken.
Step 1 Press [Cal].
Step 2 Enter code 888888. If the code has been changed it must be entered correctly — a wrong code will not open calibration mode.
Step 7 Enter 60,000 — the maximum capacity of the weighbridge — whether the displayed figure looks right or not.
Step 8 Zero calibration. Nothing may be on the platform. Wait until the Stable lamp is lit before pressing Input.
Step 9 Span calibration. Drive the loaded truck on, key in the known weight, and again wait for the Stable lamp before pressing Input.
Step 12 Press Weight. If the display shows the value just entered, calibration is complete.

KALA Technical Notes
If the indicator will not see all the cells after addressing, the cause is almost always a duplicated address or a break on the bus rather than a faulty cell. Send us the indicator model, the cell type and how many the display reports, and we will work through it with you.
