Configuring the SPRT SP-DIII Thermal Printer

Configuring the SPRT SP-DIII Thermal Printer

The SPRT SP-DIII and SP-DIV have no display and no menu. Everything is configured by holding one key at power-up and reading what the printer prints back at you — which works well once you know the timing, and not at all if you miss it.

Watch the red lamp first

Before configuring anything, find the red lamp at the [SEL] key. The whole procedure depends on what it does, and there is no other feedback to go by.

Entering setup mode

1  Hold [LF] down, then switch the power on. The red lamp at [SEL] starts flashing.

2  Release [LF] while the lamp has flashed fewer than three times. Wait longer and the printer enters HEX dump mode instead.

3  The printer prints Parameter setup mode followed by the first setting.

Moving through the settings

[SEL] — next setting

Each press moves to the next parameter and prints it.

[LF] — change the value

Each press steps through the available values and prints the one now selected.

Leaving setup mode

Press [LF] and [SEL] together, then release. The printer prints Exit Set Mode and the settings are saved.

Baud rate has to match at both ends

A printer that produces garbage characters rather than nothing at all is almost always a baud rate mismatch, not a fault. Set the printer through this menu to match whatever the indicator is sending — the indicator is usually the harder one to change.

Peripheral note

KALA Technical Notes

Ticket printers are usually specified last and cause the most commissioning delay, because the indicator, the cable and the printer all have to agree on the same serial settings. Tell us the indicator model and we will confirm which printer pairs with it and how it needs to be set.
